Salsa in Berkeley on Wednesday nights, classes start 8 pm for beginners and intermediate 8:45. Dancing until 2 am. Very casual grungy atmosphere, sticky carpet and badly cared for dance floor so don't wear your best ball room dance shoes! But great class for beginning and intermediate students with Liz and John. They go over the basic technique for the first hour and then get into partnering and turn combinations. Hit or miss for finding people to dance with but fun and local. A minute walk from Berkeley BART.

Salsa dance and live salsa band every Friday evening 8;30 pm class with Sorcy and Joel. The Class is a good beginners break down of the movements but the place is crowded and it is hard to see. They have a band on Friday nights so it is worth going just to listen. I do not reccomend planning to dance much as the dance floor is packed with beginners. I do not reccomend going on Saturday unless you like reggatone and house music. they play very little salsa on Saturdays. A 15 minute walk from Cerritos BART.

Belly Dance basics and Belly dance aerobics in Berkeley. I took the introductory workshop which was very basic and broke every move down and guided the students through it. Very nice little studio and caring teachers. If you have experience I recommend diving in to one of the faster classes as the workshops tend to go over the basics in exhaustive detail. A short walk from Ashby BART.

I love Eva's Wednesday and Saturday class is a nice flow yoga combined with relaxation. The classes have tended to be slow because the studio is new so she tailors the class level to the students. They also have a great permaculture education curriculum. 5 minutes from Berkeley downtown BART.

Pilates

Core Cat Pilates Studio
2020 Dennison Street, Suite 115
Oakland, CA 94606

Victoria Kelly offers private and small groups of 2 to 4 people in her lovely intimate loft studio. She has a well equipped studio with all the equipment, mats, balls and rolls you could want and lots of variety in her workouts. I came by to look at the studio and ended up co-teaching when she had to pick me up at BART. You definitely want a car to get there because fruitvale BART is a grungy scene, though it is walkable or bikeable, but the studio is located just off the freeway.

Be Well Pilates
Center Street Alameda, CA
www.bewellpilates.com

I have started teaching and subbing at Be Well and like the light cheerful studio. They specialize in group reformer classes only, very few privates and no mat or chair or cadillac or spring board or ball. They have a variety of teaching styles depending upon who is teaching. I took Chris's boot camp class. I found it to be easy going, light on the corrections with a goal on keeping the students moving.

The prices for classes are the least expensive I have seen and they have great unlimited packages and enough classes to chose from to make it worth buying unlimited if you live close by and are planning to go often. 12th street Civic Center BART and catch the 51A. The bus drops you 3 blocks away.
